Another guy at one of the forums I go to bought a 40g PS3 and CoD 4... and the PS3 could not read the disk. He returned it and I don't know if he got another one.
Edit: Why the disagrees??? I just stated what happened. It was a PS3 forum and the guy was a staunch Sony supporter... I doubt he made that up.
Congrats man... I was once a Sony fanboy too. I jumped ship when I played a 360 for the first time and realized how awesome it was, and that Sony lied to me when they said "next-gen doesn't starts until we say so"... it started two years ago with the Xbox 360.
First off, you are crazy for mentioning Lair. Second, Ratchet & Clank is a great game, but it has failed to secure many buyers, at least in NA so far. Third, Call of Duty 4 is on the Xbox 360 as well.
I don't think it means Sony's demise... but a well cemented third place.

I blame the PS3's memory architecture for all of its framerate woes... nothing else.

In case you didn't know, Epic is having all sorts of trouble with the UE on the PS3. That's part of the reason why UT3 is coming out on PC before PS3.

90% of sales in the UK have been of the 60g PS3, not the 40g. The PS3 has always sold relatively good at Amazon, because it is more portrayed there as a Blu-Ray player. Therefore, a $399 Blu-Ray player is a steal.
Having said that, Amazon trends do not reflect overall retail sales, and counts for less than 1% of total hardware/software sold. During July the PS3 was always outselling the 360 at Amazon, and we all know who came out on top (the 360 did for all of you noobies). ...
Where did you get your crystal ball??? Unless you are stating your opinion, which in case I'll counter with my opinion... which is that I believe the PS3 will always be at a disadvantage when it comes to multiplatform games, simply because it is hard to program for the PS3, especially when compared to 360 programming. As simple as that.
